MSc Information Systems

The course at Brighton University was taught in five streams:

Management Information Systems
Study was largely based upon selected chapters and case studies from Loudon and Loudon's Management Information Systems

Systems Analysis

My SA study was based upon SSADM, although Merise and OO Analysis were drawn upon to illustrate alternative approaches. Group project work required students to make use of the Case Tool SSADM Engineer 5.1.

Database Application

My study and project work revolved chiefly around relational models such as MS Access and CA - OpenIngres, although I was introduced to the theory of object-relational and OO database design.

Programming
I was taught practically in object-based Visual Basic 5, and theoretically with emphasis on fully OO concepts of Class and Modularity.

Technology
I began with a term's study of computer hardware, followed by two terms of networking and Internet topics, including TCP/IP, SMTP, FTP, network management, directory services, and general Web history.
